As children reach age 10, they’ve really got a good feel for their interests, so often they’re looking for gifts that will allow them to delve deeper into those interests. Here are some of our favourite gift ideas for 10-year-olds, keeping their interests in mind.

Do you have an animal lover? Maybe a bookworm? Or maybe your 10-year-old loves anything and everything sports-related. Whatever it is that they enjoy, or wherever their interests lay, we have some suggestions for most options below!

Animal Lovers

For a 10-year-old animal lover, you could go as small or as big as you wanted.

On the smaller gift end, you could opt for something like an Animal Encyclopaedia or some animal care books that relate to their favourite animal. In the mid-range, you could do something like adopting an animal in their name, which is not only a sweet gift but you are supporting an animal charity too, which any animal lover would appreciate.

On a larger scale, you could book an experience day somewhere, where your 10-year-old could get up, close and personal with some animals!

A great example of an animal experience day is this Be a Zookeeper day experience, which gives children the chance to spend a full day amongst the animals! Or maybe this giraffe encounter?

Sports Lovers

If your child loves everything sports-related, then we have some great gift ideas for you!

Yes, I’m sure you’re aware of the basics, like a football and net, a basketball and net, junior tennis rackets, or maybe something like their favourite footie team kit. But how about tickets to a football match or a sports team? Whatever sport they can’t get enough of, tickets to a proper game or something to improve their game will be such an exciting gift for them!

Bookworm

Books can be the most incredible gift at all ages. So if the 10-year-old you’re buying for is a renowned bookworm, then looking into a book or two as a gift may be the best idea!

For the Crafter

Does your 10-year-old love to constantly create more and more, and learn new craft skills? Then an arts and craft related gift could really work wonders for them.

If there’s a particular craft they already really love and enjoy, then try looking for a more challenging kit in that particular interest area.

If they’re happy to try more and more skills, then just opting for some great craft kits such as a Sequin Art Kit, a Pressed Flower Art Kit or a Sew Your Own Lion Kit.

Needle felting and tie-dye are fantastic options too!

Chef/Baker

Is your 10-year-old a talented culinary person? Baking and cooking gifts aren’t often considered for children, but if you have a child who has a passion for the culinary arts, then you’ll know that these types of gifts can be very much appreciated.

By the age of 10, children have good enough motor skills to be trusted with sharp knives and to really get stuck in with baking and cooking.

Gift options within this category that we would recommend are a full baking kit set up if they don’t already have one, oh and their own apron! I also know that children LOVE when you supply them with cake decorating items such as icing bags and nozzles, or food colouring and sprinkles.

You could also get them a funky set of knives if they’re really invested!

Supporting cooking and baking in children is a fantastic way to teach them a vital life skill!

History Lover

Is your 10-year-old obsessed with Ancient Egypt? The Tudors?

There are some great options for history-related gifts for kids, you’ve just got to get your creative thinking cap on!

We can start with the Horrible History series of books. These cover MOST historical topics you could think of and are presented in a hilarious and often disgusting way that kids absolutely LOVE.

Of course, if your child has a very specific historical love, then finding books relating to that subject is a safe option for you too.

But if you want to consider something on a larger scale, you could think about days out to related places. So, if they love the Vikings, then Jorvik in York is a safe bet for a great day out! If they enjoy the Tudors, then Gainsborough Old Hall may work too!

There are so many museums around in most cities, and London is packed with them!

If you have a BIG budget, consider a mini trip to a location that would be very meaningful or close to a topic they’re passionate about. Vikings – Iceland. Romans – Italy. Egyptians – Egypt. I know this is an ‘out there’ suggestion, but I find it’s one worth popping in!

Failing all of that? Costumes! Kids LOVE to dress up, and if they have an interest that you can find or make a costume for, then bonus!

Gamer

We all know a lot of 10-year-old gamers these days. So what do we buy for them?

If they want a specific game then that’s quite obviously very helpful, but what if they don’t?

Well, you can often buy gift cards or vouchers for most game platforms, which will allow them to purchase games or items themselves as they want them.

Other options for gamers are gaming chairs, headsets and game-related figurines.

Outdoorsy Folk

Is your 10-year-old more at home outside than anywhere else? Then outdoor gifts may be the way to go.

You could go for a den building kit, some bushcraft supplies, a tent, a hammock, or even investigation tools and identification books.

Hopefully, this gift guide for 10-year-olds has helped you with some ideas for the 10-year-old in your life. It’s really important to try and focus on the child’s interests, and that way you’re sure to be a hit with whatever you go for.
